eBay SUMMARY: A substantial goliath sized WW1 Swiss 8-Day Mappin & Webb of London Luminous Officers Pocket Watch 1914 with movement by the Talis watch company. The watch in its original case and with stunning dial with period luminised numerals and hands. The watch is in full working order, recently serviced and overhauled and keeping good time. The buy it now price is a clear reflection of the rarity, stunning condition and long-term investment for this watch. THE DIAL: 100% mint, the white enamel dial with Luminised Arabic numerals and in bright condition with no hairlines or chips. The dial with partially luminised military steel spade hands and subsidary seconds and marked 8 days and Mappin, and Swiss Made. The thick bevelled crystal in good condition and diameter of 55 mm THE MOVEMENT: 100% mint, with finely finished gilt plated movement and a Bosley regulator, and blue steel screws. A cut two arm bimetallic balance, with hairspring and club tooth lever escapement and balance cock and balance of rare patent form The movement of good quality and with 15 jewels, by Talis Watch Company. The watch ticking away on my desk as I type this, and keeping excellent time and just cleaned and overhauled by my watch-maker. The watch is much brighter and crisp than in these dark photos, which are limited by my camera and lighting equipment. The watch is in very good working order for its age. A very similar watch is shown Pocket Watches, 19th and 20th Century by Shenton and pictures are shown, covering the Octava Wtch Company 8-Day Movement and original patent of 1905. THE CASE: 99% mint, the stin gilt finished case measures 65 mm. The front and rear covers are excellent, both are close nice and tightly. The case with rear cover clean and with a few tiny scratches to the centre of the rear cover. This is a high quality case, a work of art in its own right in crisp condition and of jewel like quality.The pictures show minor reflections and various dark marks, these are an artefact from the lighting and are not present in the watch case. This is a very fine period goliath watch in simply stunning condition, which is a very rare collectable item or a possible investment for the future or of course a fine gift for a birthday, anniversary, wedding etc. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: Please note, the magnified electronic images show detail much greater than would be visible with the naked eye.
