EXPO ’70 HI-LITE ALBUM. PROGRESS AND HUMANITY FOR MANKIND. AN AMAZING BOOK IN VERY GOOD MINUS CONDITION. SOFTCOVER WITH DUST JACKET. THE OUTER JACKET HAS SEVERAL SHORT TEARS TO TOP EDGE WITH A FEW INTERNAL TAPE REPAIRS. MINIMAL PAPER LOSS AT TOP OF SPINE (PHOTO 2 & 23). THE UPPER CORNER OF JACKET AT REAR FOLD SHOWS CRUSHING (PHOTO 23- shows the damage to the top edge of the jacket and top edge of plain white exterior wraps of the book). THE PLAIN WHITE WRAPS UNDER THE JACKET HAVE ROUGHNESS AT THE TOP EDGES AND A CORNER CREASE IN THE SAME SPOT THAT SHOWED THE CRUSHING TO THE JACKET. THE BOOK ITSELF HAS A LIGHT UPPER CORNER BUMP TO THE FIRST 30 PAGES AND THE TOP EDGE HAS A PRESSURE MARK FROM ABOUT PAGE 160 TO THE REAR OF THE BOOK WHERE IT WAS LIKELY STRUCK (PHOTO 24- the index of all of the pages, shows the top edge bump I refer to. It starts smaller on Page 160 but looks like that by the end of the book). DESPITE THE EDGE WEAR, THE BOOK IS WELL MAINTAINED OVERALL. THE BOOK IS IN JAPANESE, ENGLISH AND FRENCH LANGUAGES. The book has 192 pages plus 12 yellow introductory pages with commentary and eight more yellow pages at rear which include an index of the nearly 150 individual pavilions and other locations such as Expoland, and Festival Plaza. This softcover book has over 500 photos and was printed in 1970. While the Japanese show concept high speed trains (PHOTO 8), the US has moon rocks, a lunar module and the Apollo 8 Command Module (PHOTO 17), the USSR has their docking of the Sojuz 4 & 5, the Brits have the Concorde (PHOTO 20) and all of the separate Japanese corporations show their expectations of the future. Even the smallest pavilions have photos and all of this has since disappeared. As far as a complete example of Pavilions and Exhibits, I don’t know if a better book was printed. (I did note that El Salvador, Mauritius and Costa Rica shared one page with six photos total so not EVERY Pavilion got at least three photos.) Even Pepsi and IBM had their own pavilions. The tower sculpture for the European community was very cool. There was a Robot Pavilion by Fuji I expected to just skim through this, list it and move on but I got completely sucked in by the futuristic “motor tractor” and then just the gorgeous colors. Germany (Photo 5 lower right) had these freakish models of the heart and the Gas Pavilion had a massive Miro mural (and I don’t know if it even still exists- PHOTO 6). THIS IS A SURPRISINGLY HARD BOOK TO COME ACROSSPLEASE USE ZOOM FUNCTION ON ALL PHOTOS AS THEY ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. Wbag
