eBay Make sure to BOOKMARK OUR EBAY STORE and check out OUR NEWLY LISTED ITEMS This is an incredibly rare original printed production art page for Prince Valiant In The Days of King Arthur, the all-time classic Sunday newspaper strip written and illustrated by the legendary Harold R. Foster that began back in 1937. This is a production art page for page #1727 from the series, which was published on March 15, 1970 (3/15/70). This is a color production art page of the complete Sunday page, featuring beautiful art by Hal Foster. The size of the piece lets you see the incredible Hal Foster artwork in nice large detail. It is likely that the only other way you would be able to see the art of a Prince Valiant page at this size would be if you owned the actual original artwork (which given the cost of those is very difficult), and much of the original artwork does not even exist as full pages as Foster often cut up the pages and sent individual panels to fans. The piece is large, and measures approximately 14 3/4″ by 21″. It is in excellent condition, particularly considering its age (more than 50 years old!), with slight handling wear and crinkling near the top right edge. Please note that this is NOT a mass-produced print, lithograph, or poster reproduction. It is an original production art page that was created during the production process for the comic strip. You can see printer key symbols in the 4 corners. It is not simply an old page taken out of the newspaper. Unlike “production art pages” you may see elsewhere that are just old newsprint pages that were used for reprints decades later, this is an authentic production art page made at the same time the actual strip originally came out, and is on smooth coated paper stock, not cheap newsprint. The piece has very bright and vibrant colors. This is a very cool and rare comic collectible that you will hardly ever get a chance to see, and this is an outstanding example, which features great images not only of the most important characters in the series, including Prince Valiant, and Prince Arn, but also an amazing final panel featuring the legendary King Arthur! If you are a fan of the series, you may know that some of the Prince Val Fantagraphics collection books, such as The Prophecy, Knights of The Round Table, The Menace of The Hun, The Sea King, Mordred’s Revenge, and Doppelganger are pretty scarce and hard to find. So consider how much rarer an original production art page is, and you begin to have an idea of how special this is. Also, considering the price of original art for Prince Valiant Sundays, this is a much more reasonable way to own a piece of production art from one of the greatest strips in American history. This is a fantastic piece that would look great framed, and would be a key piece in the collection of any PV fan. Please note that this is an authentic piece from the 1970’s, not something made for a later reprint or collection book. We have been told there are reprint production art pieces being listed by other sellers that make them seem to be old and from original printings, even though they are not (for example, older production art did not have the words on a separate sheet from the images. Those kinds of things were only done much more recently, using computer technology). We advise buyers to be careful, as there are disreputable sellers tricking many people into believing they are purchasing items that are older and more valuable than what they actually are. Some sellers simply do not state their items are from reprints, while others make very long listings and put a tiny mention about reprints buried deep in the listing, and/or use a hard-to-read font color (like yellow) to prevent buyers from seeing this information. Unfortunately, everything else in the listing (the title, pictures of the cover of the comic from the 1st printing, etc.) makes you think you are buying something from an original printing, and ebay has allowed this to continue despite many buyers saying that they have been taken for a ride and ripped off. This item is a genuine piece from the ’70’s, not something made for a reprint. We clearly differentiate items from original printings and items from reprints, so you can buy with confidence.
