Got it? 😉 Motion Control Option: Various sizes – 100 mm, 150 mm, 200 mm, 300 mm travel. The total length of the setups is typically 3-4 inches longer to account for the size of the carriage block and motor. These may be used to demonstrate the stage movement and control in an displacement measuring system. Other parts sold separately. 😉 See my other listings. Stepper motor-driven platform on a mini-rail with the specified travel length and a typical lead screw pitch of 2 mm for the 100 and 150 mm, and 8 mm for the 200 and 300 mm rails.NEMA stepper motor controller with microstep capability. Input is direction and pulse to move one micro-step. 12 or 15 VDC power pack for the motor controller.Rotary optical encoder with knob 😉 that may be used for testing. This typically has 600 counts/rev resolution. Atmega 328P Nano 3.0 Arduino-compatible microcontroller with test firmware and solderless breadboard for testing. Link to MCP manual. Blank µMCP PCB with socket strips for the Atmega and screw terminal blocks for I/O. Additional common parts like LEDs may be desirable (not included). For the motion control platform to do anything useful beyond movement based on input from the encoder requires additional hardware and software (not included). The slew rate is limited to around 2 cm / second with the 2 mm pitch lead screw at the coarsest motor controller setting. One benefit even without adding anything else is that movement should be smoother with less vibration and backlash using the rotary encoder and a microstep setting of the NEMA controller compared to touching the setup with your fingers. However, these are not super precision rigs. For that one can spend $thousands. 🙂 Their selection was based on the small size and modest cost. So they may have detectable free-play, backlash, and other errors. But that’s exactly the sort of thing that experiments can aim to characterize. Note: The photos are currently of the Low Cost Motion Control Options but the standard ones are similar. Low Cost Motion Control Option – 100, 150, or 200 mm: Similar to above but with 1 mm pitch. These mini-rails are smaller (and cuter!) but may not be as precise as the above.Forensic Motion Control Option – 300 mm: Similar to the standard MCP options with a travel length of 300 mm, but the motor / screw has a periodic vibration and wobble. This would be perfect to characterize using µMD2. The artifacts should be clearly visible in the plot of the displacement and it would then be possible to quantify how the actual accuracy is affected. Since the 300 mm travel is well beyond the useful continuous motion of the homodyne systems using common HeNe lasers, this is most applicable to the heterodyne or combined setups. One of a kind – get it while still available. It’s a feature, not a bug. 😉 Motion Control Option – Custom: Other, types, travel distances, and screw pitches up to 12 mm may be available but there may be a lead time (no pun….). – ask.
