We have been receiving complaints from people purchasing cheep copy cat inserts listed on ebay from J.I.S. (P/N TIBT2A), thinking that they are our inserts! Those are not NS300L™ inserts! We have been told that the J.I.S. inserts are made in Taiwan and do not have the proper size thread on the outside of the insert to match a 5/8-11 tap, which is causing them to seize up part way into the threaded holes. Many times an extraction tool is require to remove them. WE DO NOT SELL REPLACEMENT INSERTS ON EBAY! Our replacement inserts are high quality U.S. made and are only sold direct from Huhn Solutions. The NS300L™ insert has become the benchmark for repairing aluminum engine blocks. Although other systems may make the claim of having an “approved” kit by many automotive manufacturers, the NS300L™ kit has developed the reputation of being a “confirmed” repair. There is a big difference between “approved” and “confirmed”, especially when you figure the expense and frustration of a possible failed repair.NOTE: Be careful of less expensive band-aid repairs that claim: no inserts, no drilling and tapping. Those type of repairs use the few good threads at the bottom of the hole below the bad threads, which is only half the amount of threads that failed in the first place. This is accomplished by using longer head bolts. Common sense would suggest that if the length of thread engagement from factory (about 1″) didn’t hold, half that amount of threads certainly isn’t going to hold and is almost guaranteed to fail. Doing the repair correctly the first time will cost far less in the long run and give you piece of mind of a reliable repair. The NS300L™ Insert System is a head bolt thread repair system originally engineered with great success, to outperform all other repairs on the market for the Cadillac Northstar engine, but since it’s conception, the NS300L™ Insert System has become the preferred head bolt thread repair for most other aluminum engines as well. Unlike most other repairs, the NS300L™ thread repair system has been designed to work with every insert we have available which are available for several head bolt thread sizes, eliminating the need to purchase a kit for every different thread size. This can translate into huge cost savings for shops who do these repairs on a variety of different engines. This has been achieved by standardizing the outside thread of all of our inserts, which allows the same drill, taps and alignment jig (which is also universal), to be used on many different engines. I then realized that it had been repaired once before with GM-approved solid synchronized inserts, which were also stripped out! After doing some research, I found that the Cadillac Northstar 4.6/4.0L, Toyota 2.4L 2AZ FE engine which uses the same thread, were notorious for the head bolt holes stripping, and a larger diameter GM-approved “second repair” insert was available. The challenge with the second repair is, it also had the same fine threads as the failed GM-approved “first repair” inserts. The last thing that I wanted to do was to install another fine thread insert, because if they failed, I would have had no other option, other than to replace the engine block. I am a Tool and Die Maker/Machinist by trade and I developed the NS300L™ Insert System out of necessity and frustration. The NS300L™ Insert System is a head bolt thread repair system engineered to outperform all other kits on the market for aluminum engine blocks. Unlike thin inserts with synchronized internal and external fine threads such as the GM repair, the NS300L™ Insert is designed to be a far stronger insert due to its longer length, bigger diameter, and coarser external thread for maximum strength. This prevents the insert from expanding under high torque, and allows the load to be distributed to a much larger area. As a result, the load per thread is much less, significantly reducing the chance of cracking the block. Understand, head bolts/studs do not strip out of steel inserts, they only strip out of the aluminum block itself. The NS300L™ Insert System has over three times the thread engagement within the aluminum block than the GM-approved first repair insert, over two times that of the GM-approved second repair insert, and almost four times that of the common standard coil type inserts. There is nothing wrong with those other type inserts, they are very well designed inserts for most applications. The challenge with them is they do not always get past the deteriorated aluminum and back into virgin aluminum, due to their smaller diameter and fine external threads (the same fine threads as the head bolt that failed in the first place), and have a tendency to pull out during the head bolt tightening process. Occasionally, those other types of inserts have failed only a few hundred miles after the repair. I have had several technicians contact me with this challenge. They found the NS300L™ insert gives them a much stronger, more reliable repair, and in return, saves them the expense and frustration of failed repairs. One dealership informed me that they had stopped repairing Northstars with stripped head bolts on engines having over 100K miles, due to the high number of failed repairs with the GM-approved inserts. They felt the NS300L™ Insert System would be the answer to this challenge, and they have been very pleased with the results. We receive positive feed back on a regular basis from Cadillac, Toyota/Scion, Honda, BMW, Subaru and other technicians, about how impressed they are with the quality, strength and the ease of installation of the NS300L™ Inserts System.
