A completely beautiful original antique glass oil lamp. Lamp is about 8 1/2 inch tall to top of collar, w/out chimney. It is almost 19″ tall with chimney in place. This is an ORIGINAL (over One Century Old) ANTIQUE lamp, a beautiful DEEP PURPLE AMETHYST color, and it is a hand Blown Into Mold lamp (BIM), dating well over 100 years old. Condition: Glass lamp is in excellent clean condition. It is a used utility, way over a CENTURY OLD, but it is in amazing condition considering. It has NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. The brass collar/burner is used, aged, and worn, but in working order, the burner still has the old wick in it. Most of these ORIGINAL OLD antique lamps are just used as decoration for display and not intended for use so if you desire to burn this one you should have it looked over by a fire extinguisher safety inspector. Age: An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand-blown lamp (Blown-In-Mold = BIM), ca. late-1800’s. Shipping: FREE domestic shipping. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time. An outstanding looking antique oil lamp, a super solid, sturdy, antique oil lamp. Back then they made these things to really be able to stand up to all of the stresses and wear that they would be subject to, pride of craftsmanship really comes through in this beauty. Though it is very durable and made for use, yet it also has an exquisitely ornate touch to it, which gives it a nice decorative look, a completely beautiful Victorian antique. If this lamp was going to be used for any other reason besides decoration, the burner should be replaced for safety. You can purchase them for very little (#2 burner) on eBay. They even make old looking replicas that have a bronze/antique look to them and are safe to use. The old burner just screws right out, and a new burner right back in, very easy and simple to replace. Again, most of these antique oil lamps are just used as decoration and for that, this lamp is perfect. But with a replaced burner, it would be, not only pleasant to look at, but also, at times of power outages or romantic evenings with a glass of wine, it can be used to give out that wonderful soft ‘antiquee’ looking glow. (Again, if the lamp is going to be used for lighting, the burner should probably be replaced). Then there’s the beautiful deep purple amethyst color. You hear about old glass turning purple in the sunlight … this beautiful purple amethyst color is the result of this bottle being made with manganese-glass. Manganese is a mineral, a rock, that was mined, crushed, and pulverized into a powder, then added to vats of liquid molten glass, and acted as a decolorizing agent to turn the natural aqua-tinted glass into a pure crystal clear colorless glass. But when exposed to the ultraviolet rays of the sun or other sources of UV rays, it triggers a chemical reaction and the manganese oxidizes and turns a wonderful amethyst color. This lamp was passed through an industrial food sterilizer, a safe and permanent process which does the same as long time exposure to natural sunlight, except much faster. With few exceptions, only clear glass from before 1914 will turn sun-colored-amethyst. Not only does this deep purple/amethyst color make it a great looking antique bottle, but it also authenticates it as being truly antique!
