eBay For sale is a vinyl record by The Orchestra and Chorus of The Teatro Dell’ Opera Di Roma, conducted by Thomas Schippers titled “Giacomo Puccini: La Boheme”, originally released in 1964 by Angel Records, with a hard-covered book outer case with a gatefold containing two records in their attached sleeves on one side, along with a 32 page libretto in Italian on the other side that has a centerfold containing pictures of the stars. It stars Mirella Freni, Nicolai Gedda, Mariella Adani and Mario Serni. I bought this record set used, professionally cleaned them on my VPI HW-17 machine and immediately put the records into two MFSL archival inner sleeves. This preserves the integrity of the vinyl and any original inner sleeves that may have come with the record. The thick, hard cover is graded as Very Good Plus because of minor corner blunts, foxing and a six inch curved dark brown stain on the back cover resembling ring wear. The spine has a little color loss at the corners from these blunts and a small scratch in the middle of the spine. The enclose libretto is in Excellent condition with off-white pages that do not have any creases, writing or tears. The records are auto-coupled with Side One and Four on Record One and Side Two and Three on Record Two. Inside the dead wax, between the labels and the end of each record is machine stamped “IAM” inside a triangle, followed by the matrix numbers B-11/B-15/B-31/A-12, indicating that earlier stampers were used to make these records at Capitol Records’ pressing plant, where the (IAM) International Association of Machinists were employed, located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The vinyl is visually graded between Very Good Plus and Excellent because of very faint superficial sleeve marks and hairlines, none of which can be felt with a fingertip, but still with shiny and bright surfaces, without any scuffs, smudges or writing on the labels. There are some light spindle marks on the labels. I’m play grading these records collectively as Very Good Plus because of occasional low level surface noise and ticking. There was one quick pop on Side One and another pop on Side Two. They play all the way through without any skips or lock-ups from start to finish. This would be an excellent addition to anyone’s collection. I have more Classical records, as well as albums of all different genres, listed in my Ebay store. I’m not a professional grader of records, but will use record guides, as well as my personal experiences as a basis of my grading all records. Since grading is subjective, I will be conservative.
