eBay Item Description I will be offering about a dozen examples of early Beranek production in an effort to downsize some portions of my glass collection. This listing is for an early vase by the Beranek Brothers. The Shape number of this vase is 4691, which indicates it was the 91st design developed in 1946. Although the company was formed in 1941, examples of pre 1945 production are extremely rare, and there is very little in the way of known documentation. 1945 is the earliest year where there appears to be reasonable documentation, such as line art drawings for their designs. At this point in time, the firm was referred to as Beranek Glassworks. Having worked for a company by the name or Krasno early on, the style of glass initially produced by Beranek was a production technique learned by Emanuel Beranek when he worked there. Due to the lack of availability for quality production facilities, good heat sources, and raw materials, the Pulegoso style of production lent itself well to the challenging conditions the Beraneks were faced with early on. This style of production is very distinctive in it’s aesthetic. Most of it has a textured “bubbly” texture to the surface. There are limited examples from this period which used the Pulegoso production technique, but were cased with smooth layer of transparent glass. I have a handful of those examples I will be selling also. The vase being offered stands at approx 3.5 inches tall, 2.75 inches at it’s widest point, 2.75 inches in diameter at the rim and 1.25 inches in diameter at the base. The curled rim is fire polished. The base displays a ground pontil. This is a rarely seen example of this shape in a cased clear exterior which is smooth. Overall condition of the vase is good with no damage I can find. This is a very clean example of an uncommon smooth exterior vase. This is a great early vase from Beranek Glassworks, and would be a fine addition to any Czech glass collection. Aside from being a great vase, these early Beranek examples are vases I consider to have some historical significance. Please ask any questions you may have, or for more pics if needed.
