eBay Welcome to this listing for a vintage BULOVA ‘Spinnaker’ automatic watch with day/date from 1972. The watch is in its original ‘as found’ condition with a two-tone orange & white dial. Simply outstanding – for a discerning connoisseur or collector. ________________________________________________________________________________ Presented here is a sophisticated and very rare example of Bulova ‘Spinnaker’ watch meant for a discerning connoisseur of vintage timepieces keen on proudly standing apart from the rest. Instead of following the masses and choosing an accessory for ‘this’ season, why not seek out a distinctive accoutrement that is sure to communicate the uniqueness of ‘you’ without even uttering a word. This watch is marketed in ‘as found’, almost factory fresh, nearly as new condition. It is, by far, the best example listed on Ebay or elsewhere in years. DETAILS: Case: ‘Spinnaker’ model. Smart, functional with an interesting and sleek design. Original and signed BULOVA on the back. The stainless steel bezel and case back are immaculate. There is still the manufacturer’s original protective purple film to the edges of the bezel as can be seen in the photographs. The case is as found, almost in as new condition and has not been repolished or retouched in anyway. The crystal is also original, unmarked with no scratches. Crown: Original, signed ‘Bulova’, showing no wear. Excellent. Dial: Immaculate, complimenting the distinctiveness of the case the two-tone orange & white dial is in it’s original factory fresh condition. The hour positions are marked with varying length narrow black lines with orange or white borders mirroring the design of the dial. There is a bold orange stripe to the right of the dial and a ‘ghost’ of a white stripe in the center formed with the design of the hour markers. This dial design flows onto the original leather band. The dial shows the Bulova ‘spinnaker’ logo, ‘Automatic’ and ‘swiss made’ which are black. The hour positions along with the hands have not been relumed. There is a day/date window at the 3 o’clock position. Hands: Hour, minute and sweep second hands are original, steel, ‘spade’ design. All as new. The minute hand is positioned/installed five minutes (fast) out of true to the hour. Whilst this is not particularly noticeable and is a straightforward fix, this has not been corrected for the sake of originality and importantly not to accidentally scratch or chew the pristine case back. Please be sure you are happy with this. Movement: BULOVA Swiss manual & self-winding movement. This is a fine classic 11AOACB calibre with 17 jewels marked ‘N2’ for 1972. Designed to prevent over-winding. The movement has not been serviced – it is in ‘as found’ condition. It is running well keeping good time ready to wear. The day/date function works exactly as it should. If you are considering wearing this watch regular servicing is recommended. Size: Round, measures approx. 34.91mm in diameter excluding the lugs and crown. Approx. 39.79mm lug to lug. Band: The band is original to the watch and reflects the design of the dial in bold two-tone orange and white leather. The band has been used yet it is in remarkably good condition and perfectly serviceable with no rips or tears to the leather. The embossed silver ‘Bulova’ stamp to the rear and white hoops still present. The chrome buckle incorporates the ‘Bulova’ name and is unscratched. It complements the timepiece perfectly. Tag: Interestingly there is the original price tag still attached to the watch which has been left attached for originality. ________________________________________________________________________________ General comments: This watch was a truly remarkable find. In all our years of watch repair we have rarely come across such a factory fresh vintage watch. The watch presents as being virtually new which of course it isn’t. It is working correctly and keeping good time. The decision was taken not to service, repolish or refinish the watch in any way (other than a light dusting) preferring to market this as being as totally original. Arguably, it is of museum quality and certainly a watch for the connoisseur or collector. The watch is an exceptional example of a Bulova ‘Spinnaker’ automatic from 1972 which has been brought to the marketplace. The stylish case, with eye-catching 1970’s inspired two-tone orange & white designed dial make the watch highly attractive and very noticeable indeed. BULOVA is definitely a watchmaker that has been devoted to the art of timepieces with invested passion. If you have always wanted to own a classic wristwatch that is the epitome of distinction and dependability, this captivating Bulova ‘Spinnaker’ watch may be the one for you. ________________________________________________________________________________ IMPORTANT DETAILS TO NOTE This is a vintage manual and selfwinding watch with a movement from 1972, and as such it will not have the accuracy of a contemporary quartz movement therefore perfect time accuracy cannot be expected.
