Bay Laurel Leaf Essential Oil Product: Bay Laurel Leaf Essential Oil 100% Pure Latin Name: Laurus Nobilis Country of Origin: Crete Extraction Method: Steam Distilled Parts Used: Leaves Description: Bay Laurel essential oil is steam distilled from the dried leaves, which are also used in cooking. It has a powerful, spicy, medicinal aroma. The berries also produce an essential oil and a vegetable oil, but neither of these are used in aromatherapy. Common Uses: Bay Laurel essential oil is used as an expectorant and decongestant. Some sources also suggest that Bay Laurel essential oil can be used for headaches, especially sinus-related headaches. The essential oil is used as a digestive aid, stimulating the appetite and the production of salivary juices. Liniments and arthritis creams can contain Bay Laurel essential oil. It is also commonly used to help treat dyspepsia, flatulence, colds, flu, tonsillitis and viral infections. Common Applications: Poor appetite: Use three drops of Bay Laurel essential oil in a vaporizer while meals are being prepared. The spicy smell of the essential oil will awaken the salivary glands and the stomach. Stiff muscles or arthritis: Take one tablespoon of vegetable oil and add 5 drops of Bay Laurel essential oil. Rub the mixture as vigorously as possibly into the affected area, stimulating blood flow with the friction of rubbing. A warm compress or heat pack can be applied afterward to aid the penetration of the oil and continue its warming action. However, some sources caution that there is a mild risk of irritation. Blends well with the following essential oils: Pine, Cypress, Juniper, Clary Sage, Rosemary, Olibanum, Labdanum, Lavender and citrus and spice essential oils.
