Auction for lot of US post WWII named lot of material to a soldier stationed with the Army of Occupation in Austria circa 1952. Soldier served in the 350th Infantry Regiment, Service Company during the occupation of Austria. Items include a SC booklet on history of the regiment, Medal, ribbon bars, collar insignia, expert infantryman’s badge, patches, shooting qualifiaction badge and Red Cross membership card. Some souvenir postcards, charms and maps (not included) indicate he traveled to Italy and throughout Germany/Austria during his time there. Recenlty, I was able to acquire more items from this soldier which included a CIB and 16th Infantry Regiment DI. Both are German made. The individual who had them indicated that the WWII items belonging to this individual were previously sold. He could add nothing about the individual’s name. Requires more research but using a unit roster/Day reports (obtainable from NPRC) or other means it might be possible to find his records. There are some very unique and rare theater made items in this grouping.1. Theater made German Combat Infantryman’s badge with pin’s. It looks to be stamped. Has darkened on back with age. Clutches are modern.2. Theater made German/Austrian Expert Infantryman’s badge with safety pin style catch. It has patina on back and somewhat crudely made.4. Four patches related to the Occupation of Austria. This includes the patch for the Austrian Tactical Command with signs of having been removed from uniform (most probabl the soldiers), Austrian Occupation Forces with Vienna Tab. The Occupation Forces patch is theater made. The tab is US Made. Trieste Forces patch with no tab. Trieste was in Italy and this may have been picked up as a souvenir. It is unused.5. Five Ribbon Bars. One German theater made Army Good Conduct Ribbon Bar with safety pin style back. One German theater made Army of Occupation Ribbon with Austria Bar. The Austria Bar was unofficial. It has no attachment. Two place German theater made clutch bar with Army of Occupation and unoffical Austrian Occupation Ribbon. One of the “Frogs” is theater made and the other is WWII style. Two Place German theater made clutch bar with Army of Occupation. No ribbon/blank space. Has two clutches, one damaged. They are made the the German Assmannn and are marked as such. One Presidential Unit Citation ribbon bar, clutchback. This was worn while on duty with the 350th for service with the 88th ID in Italy during WWII.6. US Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Bar. The Germany bar was the only offical bar other than Japan for wear on the medal or the ribbon. 7. One US Army Sharpshooter Qualification Badge with bars for Rifle, Machine Gun, Pistol. It is swivel catch pinback, unmarked. It might be theater made.8. Two German theater made DUI’s for the 350th Infantry Regiment. They have the German style safety pin attachment. They are unmarked and show minor wear from use. Some believe the DUI’s to have been manufactured in Italy but I feel they are German made.9. Four theater made silver domed enlisted collar insignia. One for infantry, one with US, One with Infantry and SV, one with US/350. They are domed with various attachments. The SV has a screw backing with US made nut. The others have post war US clutches I put on them.10. Six theater made domed clutch back brass enlisted collar insignia. There are three infantry and three US. One of the infantry is crossed rifles and the SV has screw back with nut attachment. One of the US has 350 underneath the US has screw back with nut attachment. Some of these have their original theater made clutches. Also included are three flat brass enlisted collar insignia, two US and one Infantry. Two are marked Gemsco. One has a screwback attachment with no nut. It is theater made and marked “Standardplate”11. Two domed 350th Infantry Regiment collar disk with screwbacks. These theater made disk are either German or Austrian made.12. One DI for the 16th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division. Crest has the P in a circle indicating the hallmark of Carl Poellath, Scrobenhausen, Germany. Modern cluthes will be provided.13. Small SC pocket sized history booklet of the 350th Infantry Regiment. Marked with patch for the Austrian Tactical Command with 350 Crest inside patch. Dates indicate service of the Regiment in WW1, WW2 and the Occupation. Normal toning of pages. Some minor creasing along spine. No date on booklet persay but since history is 1948-52 safe to speculate the soldier was there in the final year of the occupation.14. American Red Cross membership card To Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Blue. Normal toning with age. This could be the soldier or his parents. If it is the soldier there are indications he was in WWII and stayed during the occupation having brought his wife over.Collar disk/Medal/DUIs/Ribbon Bars/Booklet/Shooting Badge/Patches/Red Cross Card show normal wear/tear associated with age.
